ShareTweetPin Well friends, we’re going on day 22 of quarantine over here, and President Trump just announced earlier this week that there’s at least another 30 days in sight. FEMA to restrict exports of critical supplies leaving US

(CNN)Companies will soon be blocked from exporting critical medical supplies needed by the US for the coronavirus response, unless the Federal Emergency Management Agency gives approval for overseas shipments, according to a federal draft regulation. In a joint statement Wednesday, the two agencies, both of which fall under the Department of Homeland Security, said they’re “working together to prevent domestic brokers, distributors, and other intermediaries from diverting these critical medical resources overseas.” CBP will be responsible for identifying exports at US air and sea ports, while FEMA will decide whether…

Study behind updated FDA guidance shows self-swab tests are as effective as those done by clinicians

Earlier this week, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that it would be updating its guidance to allow self-swab tests for COVID-19, in which a patient collects a sample for their own nose for a health professional to test. On Wednesday, UnitedHealth Group revealed the results of a peer-reviewed large scale study that provided the science behind the decision to switch to the less-invasive sample collection method. The self-swab process doesn’t change where FDA-approved testing can happen – this expanded guidance only applies to the method of collection,…

The Speed Of Light Remains Constant At The Highest Energy Tested Yet

The fact that the speed of light is constant in a vacuum is one of the cornerstones of Einstein’s theory of special relativity. But it’s not obvious why this should be the case, or even whether it’s possible, under certain conditions, that it might not be. A new study, published in Physical Review Letters, set out to test if the speed of light remains constant even at the highest energy we can get from cosmic events. Special relativity has at its core two facts: That the speed of light in a…
