China’s yuan is getting a little stronger

Hong Kong (CNN Business)Asian markets moved slightly higher on Thursday, while the Chinese central bank guided the yuan to its highest level in nearly five months. The Chinese currency is now trading at about 6.996 yuan per dollar in mainland China. A giant red star is acting weird and scientists think it may be about to explode

(CNN)A young, bright star has been acting a little erratic lately. Guinan and his colleagues have been closely observing the star for decades, with “continuous coverage since 1980,” he said. In the last half-century, the star has never dimmed so aggressively, and that could mean we’re on the verge of something extraordinary. “What causes the supernova is deep inside the star,” Guinan said. And because the star is so huge, it’s impossible to tell what’s going on so far down. It could be a prelude to a supernova Betelgeuse is…

Boxing Day sales dip blamed on Black Friday deals

Diane Wehrle, insights director at Springboard, said the final figures might improve but they are still likely to be substantially down on last year. She said many consumers were still celebrating Christmas with their family on Boxing Day, while the rainy weather, online shopping and increased Black Friday spending were also possible factors for the drop in footfall. “Boxing Day is indisputably a less important trading day than it once was,” Ms Wehrle said. A Gorilla Born With A Lack Of Pigmentation On Her Fingers Surprises People

Not so long ago, there was a fun party at Zoo Atlanta: their gorilla Anaka celebrated her 6th birthday. To commemorate the joyous occasion, the employees at the facility snapped a couple of pics of the big girl and shared them on Facebook. People started sending their best wishes. However, while congratulating Anaka, those who were more observant noticed an interesting detail. The gorilla has a unique patch of pigment on her hand. In the close-up picture of the pink patch, it even looks remarkably human-like. Which is understandable, considering that…

Crime Scene DNA Reliability Called Into Question After Mans Bone Marrow Transplant

When Chris Long received a bone marrow transplant, he knew that the procedure might be the only thing to treat his recent diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia and myelodysplastic syndromes – two rare conditions that impair the production of healthy blood cells. His colleagues saw a scientific opportunity. Four years after his treatment, DNA analysis shows that parts of Long now contain more than just stem cells from his donor, a German man who lives thousands of miles away. Lip, cheek, and tongue swabs revealed that his donor’s DNA was present at fluctuating levels…

The Betches’ Travel Guide To Switzerland & Lake Como | Betches

If you’re looking for a European vacation that hasn’t been covered extensively by Instagram yet, I highly recommend a trip through Switzerland. Perfect for a honeymoon or a family occasion, Switzerland is a trip you can do basically any time of year, though it will look a lot different depending on when you go. Everything in Switzerland is more expensive from December to March, which is considered “the season”. However, if you go during this time, the Lake Como extension of the itinerary doesn’t really work, as many hotels there…
