China’s stock market had a terrible 2018. This year could be a lot better

Hong Kong (CNN Business)China’s beaten down stock market could be headed for a rebound. Chinese stocks would hold strong appeal “in a world where they agree a trade deal,” said Christopher Wood, an equity strategist at Hong Kong-based broker CLSA. He predicts the two governments will reach some kind of agreement by early March to prevent a return to their bruising trade war. “If China is smart, they will do a deal with Donald Trump,” Wood said, describing him as “the most friendly president Beijing is going to deal with,…

Blindfolded Bird Box Challenger crashes car

Remember, way back on January 2 when Netflix issued a warning to its customers over the viral Bird Box challenge meme to “PLEASE DO NOT HURT YOURSELVES WITH THIS BIRD BOX CHALLENGE?” That warning wasn’t heard or followed by at least one 17-year-old in Utah who decided to give the challenge — which involves a blindfold — a whirl while driving. The result was what one might expect. There was a crash (hat tip CNN, which spotted the tweet from Layton Police).

Why Silicon Valley needs more visas

Henrique Dubugras Photo courtesy of Flickr/jvoves While it might sound counterintuitive, immigrants create more jobs and make our economy stronger. Research from the National Foundation of American Policy (NFAP) has shown that immigrant-founded billion-dollar companies doubled their number of employees over the past two years. According to the research, “WeWork went from 1,200 to 6,000 employees between 2016 and 2018, Houzz increased from 800 to 1,800 employees the last two years, while Cloudflare went from 225 to 715 employees.” We’ve seen the same growth at Brex. In just one year…
